The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) arraigned Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Bernard Mbusu, Evans Muthengi Mutaki, and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge before the court. Each faces a charge of robbery with violence contrary to Section 296(2) of the Penal Code.

What the Robbery of the American Citizen in Mombasa Involved

According to the prosecution, the four suspects, acting jointly with others not yet before the court, violently robbed American national Joszef Cszmadia at Ascent Court Apartments in Nyali.

Principal Prosecution Counsel Susan Lewa told the court the stolen items included Sh14,000 in Kenyan currency, USD 3,000 in US dollars, 50,000 Hungarian forints, an HP laptop, a Motorola G Play mobile phone, and a Philips razor.

Meanwhile, the court noted that investigators need to clarify the status of materials recovered from the suspects. The presiding magistrate ordered the investigating officer to appear and address whether those items qualify as exhibits admissible in evidence.

All four accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Suspects Released on Bond as Case Heads to Trial

In addition, the court granted each suspect a bond of Sh1 million with a surety of a similar amount pending trial. The case returns to court on May 27, 2026, for a mention.

The DPP said in a statement that the prosecution will pursue the matter based on available evidence. ForwardPressKe sought further comment from the DPP’s office on the status of suspects still at large. This story will be updated when a response is received.
