Arrest Gachagua Now, Sarai Tells DCI

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary general and East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament Hassan Omar has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, describing his recent utterances as reckless and divisive.

Addressing journalists in Mombasa, Sarai described Gachagua’s recent remarks as reckless and divisive. He warned that the former deputy president risks plunging the country into chaos if not reined in.

“Before Gachagua brings this country down, we are urging the DCI to make good on their statements and arrest him. We are ready. Arrest him. What will he do? There are a few fanatic followers who make noise here and there, so what? If we continue to exercise restraint, they look at restraint as cowardice. It is important for us to demonstrate our courage as a nation. So Amin, the IG Kanja, it is time to act on this gentleman before it is too late. He has consistently evoked emotions in this country to precipitate hatred and violence,” Sarai said.

The strong call comes after the DCI confirmed it is probing Gachagua’s utterances on the oil importation scandal, especially those delivered in the Gikuyu language.

In a statement signed by John Marete, Director of Liaison and Corporate Communications at the DCI, the agency said it is actively reviewing the full remarks. It aims to determine whether they constitute offences under the National Cohesion and Integration Act or relevant sections of the Penal Code, including hate speech, ethnic contempt, and incitement.

“The DCI will not hesitate to take appropriate action where the law has been broken, irrespective of the status or position of any individual,” the statement added.

Gachagua made the controversial claims during a church service in Gatundu North, Kiambu County. He alleged that the arrests of top energy officials were not about accountability. Instead, he linked them to a business dispute over the government-to-government oil importation arrangement, claiming the President is the prime beneficiary.

He revealed that Energy Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban, Kenya Pipeline Company CEO Joe Sang and Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) CEO Daniel Kiptoo, were compelled to resign. Gachagua further alleged that Sh500 million recovered from their residences has inexplicably gone missing.

The escalating war of words has raised political temperatures across the country. While Sarai pushes for swift arrest to safeguard national unity, Gachagua has dared the DCI to act, insisting his statements are protected.
