Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has warned that the government will take strict action against motorists who violate traffic laws, saying a nationwide crackdown on traffic offenders is ongoing and will not be eased.

Speaking at Pirates Beach in Mombasa while accompanied by a multiagency team comprising National Police Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Defence Forces Coastguard, and National Intelligence Service officers, Masengeli said some drivers had already been arrested and would be arraigned in court to face charges.

He called on all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, saying compliance was critical to protecting their lives and those of other Kenyans sharing the road.

“Drivers must observe traffic rules at all times. The crackdown will continue, and those found on the wrong side of the law will face the full force of the law,” he said.

Masengeli urged motorists to exercise extra caution in the post-Easter period, noting that the festive season is historically marked by a spike in road accidents across the country.

On security, the Deputy Inspector General assured Kenyans that security agencies had enhanced safety measures nationwide to protect citizens and their property.

He said the agencies had successfully neutralised criminal networks operating in various parts of the country, including the Coastal region, adding that strategies were in place to sustain and strengthen security operations going forward.
